Capoeira
CAPOEIRA: Where combat, dance, music, acrobatics, Brazilian culture, language, and boundless joy converge. It's not just a martial art; it's a transformative experience that enhances rhythm, strength, endurance, flexibility, and fosters an incomparable sense of community.
Yet, Capoeira's origins were quite different. Developed by African slaves during the colonial era as a means of self-defense, its movements were cleverly disguised within African music and songs to avoid suspicion of combat training. To maintain vigilance, practitioners formed a circle where pairs trained, allowing them to watch for potential threats from all directions. Capoeira became a powerful form of resistance, proving invaluable in the emancipation of slaves, while fostering camaraderie and self-affirmation.
Today, Capoeira is an integral part of Brazilian culture, a martial art that finds its completeness only when synchronized with music and the accompanying instruments.
In a momentous recognition, the UNESCO included the Brazilian martial dance, CAPOEIRA, in its list of intangible cultural heritage at the end of 2014.
The Capoeira Erfurt e.V. association has been training with the esteemed group Malta Brasil Capoeira, founded by Prof. Guaru, since 2017.
